    EU Regulatory Framework for Chemical Substances

    Chemical safety in the European Union is governed by an integrated framework of regulations. REACH regulates the registration, evaluation, and restriction of substances. CLP ensures uniform classification and labelling. National legislation — such as the Dutch Arbowet — translates these obligations into concrete workplace requirements.

    How the Regulations Relate

    REACH (EC 1907/2006) covers the entire lifecycle of chemical substances — from registration to restriction. CLP (EC 1272/2008) ensures uniform hazard classification and labelling aligned with the UN GHS. National legislation such as the Arbowet and Arbobesluit then translates these EU requirements into concrete workplace obligations for employers.
