The basics

What is an SDS check?

An SDS check verifies that your safety data sheets (SDSs, called VIBs in the Netherlands) are complete, current, and usable. A sheet shouldn't be much older than three years and must carry the right hazard information. Missing or outdated SDSs are a common finding in a labour inspection — and they make a reliable risk assessment impossible.

Automatic checks

What Chemspark checks automatically

For every product, Chemspark runs these SDS checks automatically, so you don't have to review each sheet by hand:

SDS file present

Is a safety data sheet actually stored for this product?

Revision date present

Does the sheet carry a revision date, so its validity can be assessed?

Less than 3 years old

Is the SDS recent enough? Older sheets are flagged to request from the supplier.

Supplier linked

Is the supplier known, so you can quickly request an up-to-date SDS?

Hazard classification complete

Are the H-statements, pictograms, and signal words fully populated?

Components or CAS number

Are substances and CAS numbers listed — needed for ZZS, SVHC, and CMR compliance checks?

Physical state

Is it recorded whether the product is solid, liquid, or gas — key to the exposure assessment?

Transport information

Is transport information (DG classification) present, or confirmed not applicable?

Why it matters

Why a current SDS matters

Your safety data sheets are the foundation for everything: the hazardous-substance risk assessment, your substance register, the workplace instruction cards, and the EN 689 exposure assessment. An outdated or incomplete SDS breaks the whole chain. The automatic SDS check keeps that foundation sound and instantly produces an action list of sheets that need updating.
