Checking the data ('Needs review')
Chemspark never fills in a guess. Anything it cannot take from the SDS with certainty gets the 'Needs review' flag, so that someone checks it against the SDS.

Why check?
Everything after the upload builds on the data from the SDS: the hazard levels in the inventory, the check against the regulatory lists, the screening, the risk assessment, the workplace card and the GHS label. The H-statements and the composition with CAS numbers matter most.
SDSs vary widely in layout and quality. A quick check after the upload keeps an error from carrying through.
Where the flag appears
- In the Inventory, on the product. The filter 'Show only "Needs Review"' under 'Filters' brings together every product that still needs checking.
- On the product page, in the block 'This product needs review', with the reason.
- In the risk assessment, with the link 'Check the product'.
- After a Bulk Upload, on every file saved with 'Upload but Needs Review'.
Common reasons
- The SDS was read from a scan or from images.
- An ingredient may be missing, or a concentration or name may be garbled.
- The SDS is outdated, for example classified with R-phrases instead of under CLP, or with limit values from an old list.
- The SDS uses hazard codes from outside the EU.
- No H-statements were found, or the label in section 2 is incomplete.
Checking a product
- Open the product from the Inventory with 'Open'.
- Read in the block 'This product needs review' what needs checking.
- Open the SDS with 'View SDS' and compare the points mentioned.
- For a part that is wrong, click 'Edit', correct it and click 'Save'.
- If you changed the H-statements, Chemspark recalculates the hazard levels. Review them under 'Review the recomputed hazard bands' and click 'Confirm & save'.
- When everything is right, click 'Mark as reviewed'. Chemspark records who checked the product, and when.
The SDS itself: SDS quality
The product page also has an 'SDS quality' block. It is not about the reading but about the SDS itself: is it complete and current, is a supplier linked, and does the signal word match the H-statements? Each point comes with what to do, for example asking the supplier for a current or corrected SDS.

Workflow
Uploading SDSs
Every product in Chemspark starts with an SDS. Upload one SDS or several at once: Chemspark reads the SDS and fills the inventory, with no retyping.
Workflow
Reading the inventory
The Inventory is the location's chemical register: every product with its hazards, the status of its risk assessment and its storage. It has two tabs: 'Hazard & Risk' and 'Storage'.
Workflow
Processing a new SDS
When a supplier sends a new SDS, replace the old one. Chemspark first shows what changes and which assessments, workplace cards and labels no longer match because of it.
Workflow
Keeping SDSs current: SDS updates and suppliers
Chemspark warns when an SDS has expired, expires soon or has no date. SDS updates lists those products per supplier, ready to request a new version or to record that the current SDS is still current.

Product page
The product page shows everything Chemspark read from the SDS of one product, in the order of the SDS. This is where data is checked and corrected, the SDS is replaced, and where you see what has been done with the product: risk assessment and workplace cards.
Page
Inventory
The inventory (page heading "Chemical Inventory") is the register of hazardous substances of a location: one row per product, with the hazards of the product itself, the risks of working with it and what still needs doing. This is also where new SDSs come in.
