Product page
The product page shows everything Chemspark read from the SDS of one product, in the order of the SDS. This is where data is checked and corrected, the SDS is replaced, and where you see what has been done with the product: risk assessment and workplace cards.
For: Users · Admins
Header and notices
- Under the product name: CAS number, supplier, revision date and department(s). When an old SDS has been confirmed as still current, it says "Confirmed as still current on" with the date.
- Below that, the flags, such as "Needs review", "SDS expired" or "Assessment out of date".
- "This product needs review" appears when not all data could be taken over from the SDS with certainty. It names what needs checking. After the check, "Mark as reviewed" records who did it and when.
Hazard block
At the top are the hazard pictograms, the signal word and the three hazard levels: Health hazard, Environmental hazard and Fire & explosion. They follow from the H-statements and describe the product itself, not how it is used. When a value is not printed as such in the SDS but derived, a small note says so.
The SDS sections
"Jump to" with the buttons §1, §2, §3, §9 and §14 takes the page to a section.
- Identification: product name, product ID, SDS product code, CAS and EC number, revision date and SDS language. The Safety data sheet itself sits here too, with View SDS, Download SDS and Replace SDS, plus the SDS quality.
- Hazards: signal word and the H, P and EUH statements.
- Composition: the components with CAS and EC number, concentration and per component the occupational exposure limits from section 8.1. "Other limit values in the SDS" are shown for information and do not count in the assessment.
- Physical properties, Transport and Supplier.
Correcting data
- Each section has its own "Edit" button; one section is open at a time, with Save and Cancel.
- For H-statements only known codes are accepted. After a change the hazard levels are recomputed and first shown under "Review the recomputed hazard bands", with "Confirm & save". Those levels feed the inventory, the risk assessment and the workplace card.
- Limit values are taken from the SDS and can be corrected under Composition. An organisation's own limit per substance is a house limit; it takes precedence over the value from the SDS ("Set house limit" at the component).
- Under Supplier a different supplier can be chosen; new suppliers and their details live on the Suppliers page.
SDS quality
A short check of the SDS itself, for example whether it has a revision date, whether it is not older than the set period, whether the supplier is linked and whether the signal word fits the H-statements. Each issue says what to do about it, such as asking the supplier for a corrected SDS. When all is well it says "Everything looks good".
Version History
If the SDS was ever replaced, this shows how many earlier versions are archived. "View Version History" lists them; an old version can be downloaded and compared with the current one.
Risk assessment and workplace cards
- Risk assessment: per part (Screening, Inhalation, Dermal, Fire & explosion, Quantitative) the result, and the recorded measures. Whatever still needs a measure is listed separately. "Open in risk assessment" continues there; without a screening it says "Screen".
- Workplace cards: this product's cards per location, with language, date and review date. A card can get "Workplace card out of date" or "Card: assessment changed"; "Card still correct" clears the latter without changing the card. Without a card it says "Draft a card".
Kits and the QR code
- When the product belongs to a kit, the top shows "Part of kit", with a link to the kit page. Replacing the SDS then updates every part of the kit.
- The QR code on a workplace card or GHS label opens this page. It needs an account: anyone not signed in signs in first.
Typical tasks
- Check a product marked "Needs review" against the SDS, then mark it as reviewed.
- Process a new SDS from the supplier with "Replace SDS".
- Start a screening or draft a workplace card from the product.
Who can do what
- User and admin: view, edit, review and replace the SDS, for the products of their location(s).
- Only an admin sets a house limit; it applies to the whole organisation.

Workflow
Checking the data ('Needs review')
Chemspark never fills in a guess. Anything it cannot take from the SDS with certainty gets the 'Needs review' flag, so that someone checks it against the SDS.
Workflow
Reading the inventory
The Inventory is the location's chemical register: every product with its hazards, the status of its risk assessment and its storage. It has two tabs: 'Hazard & Risk' and 'Storage'.
Workflow
Processing a new SDS
When a supplier sends a new SDS, replace the old one. Chemspark first shows what changes and which assessments, workplace cards and labels no longer match because of it.
Workflow
Risk assessment: inhalation, skin, fire and calculation
When the screening points to a possible risk, an assessment per exposure route follows. The input comes from the SDS and the screening; the risk level and the advice appear straight away.
Workflow
Making workplace cards
A workplace instruction card shows per product what workers need to know at the workplace. Chemspark drafts it from the SDS and the recorded measures; then someone reads the card, saves it and posts it.
Page
Inventory
The inventory (page heading "Chemical Inventory") is the register of hazardous substances of a location: one row per product, with the hazards of the product itself, the risks of working with it and what still needs doing. This is also where new SDSs come in.
Page
Kit page
The kit page shows the parts of a kit side by side, such as a resin and a hardener. Chemspark saves each part as a product of its own; this page is the overview.

Workplace cards
A workplace instruction card tells employees on one A4 page what they need to know about a product: the hazards, the protective equipment, safe handling and what to do if something goes wrong. On this page cards are made, tracked and reviewed on time.
